Coinage the new 10p and 5p
|
Earlier this year we explained the plans the Royal Mint had to change the 5p and 10p coins and how we were liaising with the Government to protect our industry.
The AVA has already written to David Cameron pointing out that whilst this change will save The Royal Mint around 1.5 million our industry will bear an extra cost of 42m. If you take this out to the wider coin industry the cost will be over 100m.
As the dialogue continues, a limited number of samples have been supplied to coin mechanism manufacturers for testing. What we didnt know was that the new coins will be 11 per cent thicker than the old ones. This means that there will need to be software changes to all the existing mechanisms.
The last thing we need in this difficult economic climate is extra costs on businesses and Jonathan Hilder has once again written to David Cameron. Whilst he is waiting for a response, Jonathan is urging all those in our industry to write to Number 10 and put some weight behind the campaign. To make things easy Jonathan has drafted a suggested letter, copies of which are available from the AVA, please call 020 8661 1112, or see the August issue of Auto Vending.
